Mbhashe Municipality

The Mbhashe Municipality is located in the north-eastern corner of the Amathole District Municipality, south of the OR Tambo District Municipality. Mbanyana Falls.

Vision
The Mbhashe Municipality will be able to provide quality and accessible services to its community and facilitate sustainable economic and social development through optimal utilisation of its potential, and maximise opportunities for the creation of a better life in partnership with its community.

Geography and location
The main administrative office of the municipality is situated in Dutywa. The municipality is dominated by low-density, rural settlements. The coastline is part of the Wild Coast and is a major tourist attraction.

Main industries and business sectors
The largest employer in the municipality is the government, through its social and community services. Agriculture and tourism have the largest economic potential. The agricultural sector includes potential for fruit and vegetable farming, maize farming, forestry, mariculture and stock farming. The tourism sector is in the process of developing a comprehensive strategy to attract more visitors to its tourism sites, particularly the Wild Coast.

The municipality’s high rainfall and natural scenic beauty are its main assets. The high rainfall will allow the agricultural sector to develop, while the natural beauty will attract more tourists and allow the sector to develop.
