The Great Kei Municipality, located within the Amathole District Municipality, boasts high rainfall which gives rise to a thriving agricultural industry, and significant scenic beauty, which creates opportunities for the tourism industry.

Geography and location
The Great Kei Municipality is located within the Eastern Cape and is bounded in the east by the Great Kei River and Mnquma Municipality, in the south-east by the coastline between the Kwelera River and Kei Mouth, and in the west by the Buffalo City Municipality
and the Amahlathi Municipality, which is situated to the north. The municipality is divided into seven wards which are the amalgamation of previously different communities and municipal entities: Komga, Kei Mouth, Chintsa East, Chintsa West, The Glens, Haga Haga, Mooiplaas, Kwelera.
Main industries and business sectors and attractions
The municipality’s major industries are agriculture and tourism. The Great Kei used to be the centre of the South African pineapple industry and while there are still many pineapple farms, agriculture has now diversified. The high rainfall is conducive to different forms of agriculture, including vegetable, fruit and nut farming. The tourism sector is growing due to the natural beauty of the area. Inland, a number of game farms have attracted tourists, while the magnificent coastline offers an array of resorts.
