Mission
Amahlathi Municipality in partnership with its community will create sustainable and better services for all; improve communications; emphasise better usage of resources; provide infrastructure and build investor confidence.

Geography and location
The Amahlathi Municipality is situated within the Amathole District Municipality, just south of the Chris Hani District Municipality. As a Category B Municipality, it covers the following clusters: Tsomo, Cathcart, King-Kei, Keiskamahoek and Stutterheim.

Main industries and business sectors
The municipality’s primary industry is agriculture with tourism becoming an ever more important contributor to the economy. The agricultural sector includes forestry as well as livestock and crop farming. The last 10 to 20 years have also seen the development of a successful light manufacturing industry. Tourism is, however, being targeted as a major growth area due to the scenic beauty of the region and the numerous outdoor activities on offer to tourists.

Main resources and attractions
The municipality’s primary resource is its favourable climate and fertile soils. This has not been fully tapped into and agriculture is still a potential growth area. The livestock farming has also relied on the lush vegetation. The natural beauty of the region is now being tapped into as a drawcard for tourists. Aside from the natural beauty, the region’s tourist attractions include historical-cultural sites and popular outdoor activities such as bird watching, water recreation and sports at Gubu and Wriggleswade Dam.
